Movie Night at the Regency
Thursday Night, May 29th, it's movie time - and this time, it's personal...
What's that supposed to mean?
I don't know.
Third Base.
At any rate, the movie is all but decided on. But before I "pull the trigger" we've got to really mean it with this film. It's funny, deep, stupid, thoughtful, gross and even involves some... nudity. It's rated R, and it is a feature film, so it will be ticket time - and this time, it's personal.
Stop saying that.
Right... at any rate, soon you will learn one of two things - either we will announce the film or... people are not wearing enough hats.
So you are going to announce the film?
Well, it could be "the hats."
Seriously, it's not the hats... just announce the film.

It's more fun this way.

Cinema 16:9 - Now In A Flavorful LLC
No, LLC doesn't stand for "Little Lost Cat." As a side note, for those who may have heard that our cat was lost - I found her, she'd got herself trapped in the garage. But as I was saying LLC doesn't stand for Little Lost Cat. It stands for Limited Liability Company.
I know what your wondering:
Will Cinema 16:9 change now? What will change?
Not much will change about Cinema 16:9, honestly. But now that our LLC status is processing, It means the checks will say Cinema 16:9 LLC, and the letterhead will say LLC.
I hope you realize that LLC status means more than that.
Of Course, don't be silly.
What will LLC status make possible that Cinema 16:9 couldn't do before?
It will make for some great stories, I'm sure. It's like an action-adventure movie, only it's the formal set-up of a small business.
Come on, how is an LLC like an action-adventure movie?
My favorite part was when LLC dove over the hood of the sports car, and peeled out of the parking lot in hot pursuit of Monsieur Profit!
That doesn't sound right. Please tell me you're not being serious...
Okay, I'm not being serious. Seriously though, this is a big step for Cinema 16:9. We move forward, either taking steps forward to climb the spiral stairs of success, or to misstep and humorously tumble down the spiral staircase of painful, bruising, failure into the basement of utter financial collapse! Hey, but who knows... it's dark down there, but perhaps ending up in the basement isn't so bad.
Right, I'm sure you'd love to end up bruised and unconscious at the bottom of a spiral staircase in a dark basement.

Due to a Slight Miscalculation
It appears as though I lost two "units" since yesterday. At that rate, there's no way I could meet that deadline. Did I say deadline? I meant happy unit usage point. Oh, hell. You've probably figured out what "Unit" I'm using.
Days. Okay, it's days, and the countdown started yesterday, not with 190 Days, but 189. I even added the Lansdowne-Countdowne Ticker to the main page, so we know how much time is left before something happens which will has remained cloaked in secret and ambiguities. It should, nonetheless, have you bubbling with giddy anticipation. That's how I'm feeling. You should be excited too. So I've only got 188 days left...
So today, I feel like I should have successfully completed twice as much as I have. I'm so behind schedule! And I've got another Movie Night at the Regency coming up too... With so much on my plate, I'm excited to have a little desert before the main course as they say. Maybe they don't say that.

190 Units and 27 Goats Later
190 Units Left.
Units of what? You may ask.
Well, I can't say. I just can't.
But I think it would be make sense to assume that I'm suggesting there's 190 units left until something good happens. You could be in on it. You could watch the units tick away... Or maybe they'll start getting bigger..
Units.
With only 190 units to go, that could mean that there's a goal. After reaching a certain number of units a goal has been reached.
That goal, as you may know involves 27 goats, a red and white tailed canine, and a mythological avian creature. Oh, and Cinema 16:9.
I know! Cinema 16:9 is building an ark. To save itself, 27 goats, and two other creatures from an impending flood.
You may be more right than you know. 6 Goats have voiced their strong love of boating.
I'm not a big fan of boats, but that doesn't mean we're not building an Ark. I do have a problem keeping up with shaving, so If you see me wandering around Lansdowne with a massive beard, and a hammer - the proof is in the pudding as they say.
Actually, I'm not sure if that saying applies to boat building and carpentry.
Okay, that's enough obfuscation. What's going on?

Come on. That's really annoying. Can't you tell us a bit more? If you want me to be excited about something, you should tell me more than 190 units, don't you think?

Fresh From the Farm
Lansdowne Pennsylvania is perfectly situated to enjoy all the best from our region. Yeah, sure, you can go in to center city very easily - hop a train, and poof, you're at Reading Terminal Market or other city markets, but Lansdowne brought the market to us.
The Lansdowne Farmers Market is open to the public in exactly 31 Days! That's right, May 24th The Farmers Market is back, baby! What does this have to do with Cinema 16:9 you might ask? Well not much really. It's just a great thing that happens in Lansdowne.
I went there practically every weekend with my wife last year, so you'll likely bump into me there.

Some Xanadu, Some Xanadon't.
Recently I uncovered a transcript of the pitch session for Xanadu, the Film Cinema 16:9 presented at a private screening this weekend.
There were three people in the room, Richard Christian Danus,
Marc Reid Rubel, Robert Greenwald. What followed was a historic conversation which would would bring about what can only be described as "Xanadu." I'd like to share it with you:
Hollywood - April 20, 1979
Richard - So okay, here's the thing... This is seriously going to be huge.
Robert - Right, let me hear it.
Marc - Disco Rollerskates.
Robert - You mean like Roller Boogie?
Richard - No... better.
Robert - Better than Roller Boogie?
Marc - We're going to get ABBA.
Robert - ABBA? They're huge... we're going to need some real "Money, Money, Money."
Richard - No he didn't say ABBA, he said Olivia Newton-John.
Robert - That's better.
Marc - She's great.
Richard - She's beautiful.
Robert - She's cheaper.
Marc - That's what I think.
Robert - So a disco roller skate movie that's better than Roller Boogie? We're going to need a different angle.
Richard - See, that's the thing. It's a Science Fiction...
Marc - Like Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century.
Robert - A Sci-fi, roller disco staring Olivia Newton-John?
Richard - With Rock and Roll.
Marc - ... and flashy costumes.
Richard - Electric Orange Jumpsuits.
Robert - You're going to put Olivia Newton-John in an orange jumpsuit?
Richard - Yes.
Marc - No.
Robert - Shouldn't you show off a beautiful woman rather than cover her up with an orange jumpsuit?
Richard - Exactly.
Marc - She'll be wearing long flowing...
Richard - Short...
Marc - ... Short flowing near transparent dresses.
Robert - short doesn't "flow" boys.
Richard - Slits. Big slits. Olivia will be wearing two flaps of cloth as a dress.
Robert - I like it, sexy sci-fi roller disco, starring Olivia... Are their ray-guns?
Marc - Yes.
Richard - No.
Robert - I don't like ray guns.
Marc - No ray guns.
Richard - It's a greek myth... only sci-fi.
Robert - Greek myth?
Richard - No ray guns in greek myths. People can wear modified togas.
Marc - and big hair.
Robert - but boys, Olivia's beautiful, but really they had beautiful women in Roller Boogie.
Richard - We'll have music.
Marc - It's a musical.
Robert - A musical?
Richard - We'll get Gene Kelly.
Robert - A musical sexy sci-fi roller disco film starring Olivia and Gene... He's getting older.
Marc - He's still got it.
Richard - Oh yeah, he's still got it.
Marc - We'll just dress him up in modern costumes.
Richard - Tin Foil.
Marc - Fringe lots of fringe.
Robert - Is it a western?
Richard - only a little.
Marc - not really.
Richard - in one scene.
Robert - Boys... I like it. A sexy sci-fi loosely based on a Greek myth, with fantastic costumes...
Marc - Slits.
Richard - Cloth Flaps.
Marc - and really tight tights.
Robert - A sexy sci-fi loosely based on a Greek myth, with slits galore, cloth flaps, really tight tights, roller disco film with music, Olivia, Gene with a peppering of western to include the southern crowd. And Neon, I like neon. It should be a sort of 70s Art Deco.
Marc - 80s. We're going to define the aesthetic of this decade Rob. We're going to show the world what the 80s is going to be. It's the future in a movie.
Richard - The dream of the future made real.
Robert - Genius. Let's do it.

And... I'm afraid, it's a private affair. For the lucky few, the night will be a blaze with Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly and Meat.
So, why am I announcing a private affair? I guess just for something to write about? God, you're nosey. For those of you unable to be there, (by virtue of not being invited by the event organizers), here's what you're missing!
So yeah, um... you're missing that... plus meat.
Welcome International Web Traffic from Alicante Spain!
Ah, beautiful Alicante. I have never been, however, judging from it's wikipedia page, I suspect I would love to visit! I'm certainly glad you have visited our website. Our most recent international visitor before this was from Bolivia. I have no proof, but I suspect it was the president Evo Morales visiting.
"Hey! What am I? I'm international web traffic!" the one visitor from the UK may be thinking to themselves.
And to that I say, ah, but have you ever been to Alicante Spain? I haven't. I've been to the UK, and while it's a tremendous, wonderous, fantastic place... Alicante Spain. It's Mediterranean. So yes... if I'm going to announce every international web visitor, surely I ought to have welcomed the esteemed gentleperson from the UK. But this is a new "bit" It's only just occurred to me to welcome every wayward international who stops by the Cinema 16:9 website, only to find that it's a completely useless bit of American garbage. So retroactively, Hail to the UK. I have been there once for four months. It was lovely. I enjoyed your country, and lived a rather meager existence on mushy peas and Strongbow. And for that, I thank-you. I don't suspect that I'll be visiting the UK again really, for quite a while, as it appears as though the US dollar has fallen in value to the point that I'd be spending 1$ for a mushed pea.
Where was I? A yes. Alicante, Spain! España! A hearty American welcome to you. Yo. As always I like to offer my sincerest regards, and despite not being able to speak any Spanish, with the aid of an electronic translator, I will attempt to do so in Spanish.

Waiting to Exhale
It doesn't seem right to just have a bunch of unpublished drafts of posts. Not that anyone's sifting through the rest of the posted posts. But nonetheless, I hate not updating things. All the hubbub of behind the scenes, it's just not time to share. I am impatient, though. I'll be hearing back from one group this week and then another group. I hope I'll be hearing from that other group about where things are. And then I'll be crawling back into my undisclosed location with Dick Cheney. "meh."
So I'm on pins and needles, and I'm all covered in goosebumps... So rather than holding our collective breath, let us change the subject:
This Day in Industrial Film History - April 16, 1936
Clarence P. Gurgensteel, a Nazi cinematographer fell from the failed German "Luftkissenfahrzeug-Plattform" (basically a giant gyroscopic propeller platform).
To add insult to injury, his 35mm camera fell from the platform after him, and smashed open only three feet from Clarence's head. He watched his film shoot out of the camera, ruining the 5 minutes of footage of the platform.
To add insult to insulted injury, the platform
then spun out of control and Clarence was hit by the propeller. Then the giant gas tank exploded, incinerating everything in a 300 meter radius.
Clarence P. Gurgensteel's last words were, "Mein Film, wird es ruiniert! Wer überhaupt oben mit dieser Luftkissenfahrzeug-Plattform kam, war ein grosser Ruck." Which I believe translates to "San Diego," in German.

Welcome Recent Web Traffic From Bolivia!

My sister-in-law was just down in Chile, and I'll have to get back to you about it, but I believe she did have the opportunity to hike in Bolivia.
I have not had a chance to visit Bolivia, however.
I did get to see Bolivia's populist president Evo Morales on the Daily Show With John Stewart. I was quite impressed with the interview (which was conducted entirely through a translator) and the President seemed quite honorable.
And so in honor of our recent Bolivian visitor who may or may not have been Bolivian President Evo Morales, I would like to address the country in Spanish.

This Day in Film History - April 8th
Francis P. Logendurg (1834- 1879), a plumber from Hurgleburg, Germany invented the "C" Clamp (Das "C" Klampe) a means to clamp one pipe to another pipe. This was, in retrospect, one of the first inventions to one day revolutionize the film industry, when lights would eventually be needed to light the subject of films. Without Logendurg's invention, Gaffer's everywhere would still be left holding blisteringly hot lights above their heads.
Francis P. Logendurg was also notable in that he helped to formalize the occupational style of "Das Pants ist Drupinger." This has subsequently become a global industry standard.

Monday...
And what do I have to show for a whole weekend of work? Website improvements. Now, mind you, if you are a first time visitor, you have no idea what I'm talking about. And if you're reading this now in the "archive," no doubt the page layout has changed again.
I suppose the only way to really experience this website, and appreciate my weekend web workout in the mines of CSS, Flash, HTML and Javascript, you'll have to find a Google-cached version of the website.
Not to bore you completely, but you may even have discovered Lansdowne's "Little Big Screen Cinemas™" by a Google Ad.
I'm sure you were coming to this website thinking to yourself, "Hey... I wonder if Cinema 16:9 has been working on their website, and whether they are starting their marketing campaign... Let me take a look."
So in answer to the question on the tip of your brain:
Um... Blue Jeans, and a light blue long-sleeve polo.

Last Night Live at the Regency Cafe
So that went well. By “that” I mean last night’s screening at the Regency Cafe. Last night, Cinema 16:9 presented a series of films about coffee beans, coffee brewing, coffee drinking, and what can only be classified as verbal domestic abuse.
“I’d like you to do something about your coffee. The girls at the office make better coffee on their hotplates.”
“Wow, that’s pretty harsh!”
“Well, so is your coffee… eh… I’ll see ya.”
I’d like to thank Chris and Marcy of the Regency Cafe for having Cinema 16:9 out to screen. It was a fun night. I look forward to screening there again!
There were some glitches, of course - that comes with new venues. Some volume challenges, but my “favorite glitch" was when 2/3rds of “Coffee Break” was out of sync. I’d like to extend my apologies to everyone there… particularly to the gentleman whose father worked for Calvin Company, the industrial film production company that made “Coffee Break.” I have several films from Calvin, and they are some of my favorites. It just didn't do the film justice seeing it like that.
Next time I'll screen a Ben Affleck film out of sync. With my luck, Casey Affleck will come to the show.
That being said, we had a fine crowd filling the Regency. The cheerful lot was actually having fun watching the film out of sync. Who knew?
Also, I was informed last night by a Lansdowne council member at the show that the Lansdowne Roundabout (Rotary) and Cinemamorial has been put on hold due either to funding issues or due to the project never having existed. Cinema 16:9 would like to apologize, and would like to assure you that we have fired our fact-checking division.
No doubt Rocky Sinclair of GLAMAA is disappointed by this turn of events.
Well, maybe it was subliminal, but with all those coffee films, I was jittery and wide awake when I got home. I had a hard time sleeping in fact. But I suppose that makes sense… I had a lot of caffeine on the brain.
At this time, I'd like to open up the floor to questions from the audience:
Q. So what’s next?
A. I told you, I'll be screening a Ben Affleck film with the audio out of sync.
Q. Where to now?
A. I don't know.
Q. Third Base.
A. Stay tuned, I’ll update the schedule soon – I’ve got a lot of things in the works. Truth be told, it’s not just coffee keeping me up these days.

It's Time For Coffee!
CORRECTION: Due to the passage of time, yesterday's posting encouraging you to come to our screening tomorrow night at the Regency Cafe April 3, 2008 from 7PM-9PM has now become obsolete. Instead of reading "Tomorrow Night Live," it should now read "Tonight Live."

Planned Roundabout and Cinemamorial

Lansdowne, PA - It was announced today that work has begun on the GLAMAA sponsored "Cinemamorial."
"Greater Lansdowne Association of Movie Arts Associates" (GLAMAA) commissioned a monument to "the golden age of cinema and the silver screen."
This monument is set to be placed in the center of a roundabout planned for the intersection of Lansdowne Ave and Baltimore Pike.
GLAMAA president, Rocky Sinclair explained the need - "It's been obvious that a statuette would not be enough. We were looking at one of those faux-gold, pre-made awards statues, and we were going to put it on my mantelpiece. But who's going to enjoy that besides me? We want to show the community that we know it's the cinema and GLAMAA at the center of Lansdowne's revitalization."
David Titus, owner of Cinema 16:9 agrees, "Yeah, um... movies, man. It's all about glitz and GLAMAA. Okay, so don't quote me on that... that's actually kind of embarrassing. But seriously, people watch movies and... I mean, I show movies... I'm movie people. Can we start over?"
The ground breaking for the new cinema roundabout will begin today, April 1, and will likely be completed over the next 12 months.
Cinema 16:9 will be screening a night of "Coffee Flavored Films" at the Regency Cafe on April 3 from 7-9PM. The evening will be hosted by Cinema 16:9 owner and film exhibitioner, David Titus.
Rocky Sinclair has also announced that he did opt for the mantelpiece statuette as well because he really did like it.
